unemployed in springtime

i know an out-of-work person has no business buying shoes,
but i could not resist the Payless BOGO sale or these shoes!
{and i can justify it this way—i'm going to need shoes for my interviews, right?}

oh, and since it was buy one, get one half off,
i was forced to pick out another pair. my first pair of gladiator sandals ever!
i'm so glad the trend is still around.
even if it weren't, i love these and would still have bought them!

happy spring!

Crazy about those Cons!

For some reason, I'm suddenly very into Converse, and I don't know why. They normally don't fit my feet very well, so I tend to buy a pair, wear them once, and then move on after my feet are throbbing. But it seems like they're fitting better these days, perhaps because I'm breaking them in. And with all the lovely colors and styles available, I feel temptation equal to that of a kid in a candy store!

Check out these latest offerings from Piperlime:

Of course, you can get Converse anywhere now too—Famous Footwear, Target, DSW...heck, even the Converse Web site itself. I spied these darling Cons at DSW yesterday, and I'll just say I was twitching when I had to put them back on the shelf (due to this purchase, which was more than I wanted to spend). But look at those cute bees on the yellow pair! How can you resist?

I'm particularly fond of these raspberry/pink fold-over high tops, but I can't find my size anywhere online. (Hint hint: I'm a size M6/W8, if you happen to see them and want to send me a link.) Hmmm...

And good golly, check out these Union Jack "The Who" hi tops! How cool are these???

Um, I'm thinking another pair or two are in my near future...what about you?

Guest Post from Londyn

Today we are bringing you a guest post from Londyn, of BlogFashion—a great blog where she writes about fashion and SHOES! She daily posts pictures of her ensemble with some great advice about how to make the most of your wardrobe by mixing and matching and what looks good with what. You should definitely check it out. She has a lot of fun with it. And she loves vintage as much as I do—which is what drew me in.

I discovered her blog through a comment she left on ShoeLove, and it turns out that Chris had already been frequently reading another fashion blog—What I Wore Today—whose writer is a friend of Londyn's! Small world!

Anyway, after perusing Londyn's entire blog a couple of weeks ago, I found that she has a great collection of shoes that she writes about from time to time. Since she seemed to appreciate ShoeLove and seemed to have such great taste in shoes, I thought it would be fun to have her do a guest post. So she agreed, and I'm so glad. You're sure to love her shoes below, as well as the great advice she has for shoe lovers everywhere!

Shoe Love…. Ahhh….. What do those words mean to a woman who loves shoes as much as I do…..?!?

I have to say I recently stumbled over the Shoe Love blog and am so happy to know that there are other people out there as much in love with shoes as I am!

As I looked through this delightful blog – it made me think about my own shoe collection and specific shoe style. I have often heard the phrase that “Accessories are the best way to show personality in an outfit.” Shoes, for me, are most often that accessory.

I think my shoe wardrobe (all 110 pairs and counting…) could be broken down into 4 basic categories: 1) Chic, 2) Classic, 3) Trendy, and 4) Comfy.

It is my hope and belief that every woman should have (at least!) 2 pair in each category.

Here are a few of mine.

Chic:
1. The quality or state of being stylish; fashionableness.
2. Sophistication in dress and manner; elegance.

Classique

Classic:

2. Of the first or highest quality, class, or rank: a classic piece of work.
3. Serving as a standard, model, or guide.

Trendy:
1. Of, in, or pertaining to the latest trend or style.
2. Following the latest trends or fashions; up-to-date.

Comfort:

1. Producing or affording physical comfort, support, or ease.
2. A state of ease and satisfaction of bodily wants, with freedom from pain and anxiety.
3. Being in a state of physical or mental comfort; contented and undisturbed; at ease.

More pretty shoes from Payless

I personally adore those minty green peep toes with the tiny black bows (translation: I'm buying them the first chance I get). But there's plenty more to choose from at Payless, which seems to impress me more and more these days. Get them all here.

Start 'em young

My sister Sam bought these mary jane baby socks as a gift for my cousin Quinn's wife, Jonneal, for her baby shower this weekend. Everyone oohed and ahhed over them, and thought they were just the neatest thing in the world. Where were these when I was a little tyke???

Anyhow, you can get them here, or just google "mary jane socks" and you'll find lots of retailers that carry this adorable footwear.

My trusty new Sportos

I just simply adore these waterproof boots by Sporto. I was in need of some sturdy, warm boots—yes, I actually NEEDED boots, not just WANTED them—and found these wonderfully cute yet functional boots that suited my needs. And the perfect test drive? Our annual Christmas tree trip yesterday, which involved lots of hiking, snow, and freezing temps. These beauties performed flawlessly. Not only did my feet stay toasty and dry—a first for me, ever, with winter boots—but they repelled dirt and moisture like no one's business, and looked super cute to boot (ha ha). My feet felt great all day, and even after a long hike through a snowy forest, I had no aching arches or tired toes to speak of.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed and kept repeatedly saying to no one in particular, "I can't believe it! I have never had boots that have kept my feet so warm and dry in my life, ever! I love these boots!" People kept giving me weird looks, but that's okay. When I really like something and it exceeds my expectations, I like to share with the world.

I have the pretty black pair you see above, but they also come in a rich brown and a gorgeous winter white. I'd suggest ordering a size larger because your toes will rub the tips otherwise. I normally wear an 8-8.5, but I got a 9 and they're perfect. Plus this way you can layer socks if need be. You can try them on at DSW, but they don't seem to carry them online in their store. However, I've given you an online site (Planet Shoes) with the cheapest prices and free shipping, too, so check 'em out. Enjoy!

(P.S. Zappos also carries these boots, albeit at a higher price, but they offer a pretty taupe color as well.)

Winter white a go-go

A coworker recently noticed I had purchased some white boots, and asked me if one could wear white in winter. To this I say, of course! Why not? Winter white can be really beautiful. And what better way to wear it than in the form of shoes. Designers have not slacked on this fashion trend in the least, judging by all the boots, booties, and pumps available in this pristine look. From CL by Chinese Laundry to Caparros, white is everywhere and in every shade, texture, and fabric. Why not give it a go-go yourself and see how pretty winter white can be?

The bliss of Steve Madden shoes

I can't begin to tell you how much I love Steve Madden shoes. In fact, my favorite shoes of all time are Steve Madden shoes. Something about the style, cut, and materials of the shoes are very "me", and I never fail to find something I like. The designs range from rocker chic to ladylike and sweet, and everything in between. There are always lots of online promotions, and the brand is quite easy to find in major retail shops and boutiques. And they fit me like a dream—well, most of the time. Can't beat the style, though!

Find your own pair (or two!) of bliss here.

Totally weather-inappropriate, but oh so fun!

As much as I love wearing boots and other such cold weather wear, I eventually start to miss the strappy playfulness of the warmer weather months come November. But Target never fails to impress with its collection of sparkly, edgy, and just plain fun pumps and slingbacks, which gets the blood pumping and the pedicures done and ready. Browsing their selection is a sure fire cure for the fall and winter blahs, don't you think? I'm already daydreaming about the warm weather to come after looking at all those pretty shoes!

Gorgeous in gray

I've been very smitten with the color gray since the mercury dropped below 65, and for good reason. There are so many fabulous shades from which to choose, from dove to woodsmoke to charcoal. And the different textures and designs seen on boots this season are simply lovely. From trendy ankle boots to boots that just skirt the knee, finding just the right gray pair shouldn't be too difficult. They're a refreshing change from traditional black boots, and they'll add a dash of cool style to your cold-weather wardrobe.

And check out these saucy Betsey Johnson boots. Love that pink sole!

Symbiosis

I recently came across a blog called Such and Such . . . that posted this illustration by Etsy artist, Iris Schwarz, called Symbiosis.

Lora wrote,

"Symbiosis: A close relationship between two (or more) species.

Such as the relationship between a woman's foot and say... Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals for instance. I'm sure that's what Iris Schwarz had in mind when she created this wonderful illustration."

I really liked this post and the illustration, so I asked if I could post about it. Read the rest of her post here and check out the rest of this talented jewelry designer's blog.

Chunky Heels

The chunky heel is back in stylish new way! This isn't your grandmother's chunky heel—although, I'm sure I'd wear some vintage chunky heels, too.

Here are a few that might pique your interest. I own the red Mary Janes, and they are one of my favorites.

I'm absolutely ga-ga over the third pair with the peacock print! (and they are REALLY reasonably priced.)

Lookin' sweet in flowers and raffia

Aren't these just the cutest raffia slides you ever saw? I was looking at the clearance section at DSW online last night because I got a 25% off e-coupon that's burning a hole in my AOL account. So I happened to be browsing through all the lovely shoes, and I saw these pop up. So cute! And it's funny, because although I keep trying to filter out all shoes but size 8s, it doesn't seem to want to work for me, so these still showed up in my search. These pretty little things are a size 6. If you have small feet and love sweet little flower shoes, check 'em out! Then you can be ready for next summer and show off your pretty pedicure.

Ugg boots: Not so ugly after all?

My niece Isabelle came over the other day sporting a traditional pair of Ugg boots, and although not crazy about their look, I thought they looked good on her. Now granted, they're not the prettiest things in the world, and I get really annoyed with how trendsters tend to beat their popularity to death, wearing them with everything from lacy camisoles to sun dresses. Although I must admit they look very toasty and cozy, I have never been very fond of their styling.

So imagine my surprise when I started seeing ads for some rather nice-looking Uggs. Not possible, you say? Check out the collection here. Granted, they're still not exactly on the cutting edge of fashion (in my mind, anyhow) but they look pretty stylish—and warm to boot (wink, wink).

How Will Your Feet be Shod this Halloween?

Check out these gorgeous shoes that Chelsea at The Vintage Chair (one of my all-time favorite blogs) made for her Halloween costume. She decided to go as a fake house plant. Clever, hah? She has been updating her readers from the conception of the idea, through production, to the finished product.

When I saw the pictures from the party, I told her it looked more like the latest couture fashion and less like a costume. It was so cool! She looked great! And the shoes? Well, they speak for themselves.

She did such a great job on this costume that she thought of and made herself—right down to the shoes. Go here to see the rest of the costume and more costumes of her friends.

A rose of a designer—Lela Rose for Payless

Since returning as a faithful shopper at Payless a few weeks ago after a long absence, I've been delighted to find the adorable and ladylike designs of Lela Rose in stock. Her shoes are pretty and proper, accented with bows and gathers, yet they have a decidedly sexy look to them, too. I own a pair of the flats with the bows in a gorgeous slate gray, and they are very comfortable and stylish, garnering lots of of oohs and ahhs. Consider these shoes a little bit of bloom for your feet... I can't wait to see what else Rose comes up with!

Hot trend: ankle boots

Ankle boots are once again very trendy this season, and there's a plethora of shapes, styles, and colors out there right now. I like pairing these with a simple skirt and tights, especially if you wear all one color (see image on right). This trick tends to make the silhouette leaner, and you don't get that squatty look that short boots might otherwise give you. Ankle boots also pair quite nicely with jeans, and fun new colors can really make your feet shine in the middle of the winter blahs.

New Banner for ShoeLove

So, I finally tweaked the ShoeLove banner like I said I would.

It took me a while, as I have been uber-busy this week. As I said earlier, Chris drew this lovely little stick figure of a shoe lover on a post-it note. (Be sure to check out her new blog about these adorable little guys—called My Stick Figure Diary.)

Anyway, I had taken the post-it note with the drawing that she gave me, stuck it on a little green leather box that I have in my office and then took a picture of it.

The original post-it was green, so I had intended to just open the photo in Photoshop and change the background to white to use for the banner. But then I liked how the photo turned out so much, that I ended up using the whole photo. When Chris saw it, she agreed! Our first design collaboration—I'm pleased with how it turned out.

So, now, I have changed the font and I think it's complete! Now to get working on posts and the side bar, right Chris?

How Much is That Shoe in the Window?

Hello Beautiful!

On the way back to my car after tapas Friday night, Jessi and I saw this shoe store with its window display of lights gleaming on beautiful shoes in all their glory! They were having an Open House Party with wine and refreshments. Had we not just eaten and had a train to make, I'm sure we would have stopped in.

(That's me in the last picture—posing like a kid at Christmas. Or maybe I wasn't posing.)
